ABSTRACT

In his poems, essays and talks over the course of his long career, Gary Snyder has crafted compelling visions of optimal forms of community. With such foci as reinhabitation, bioregionalism, communal practice, the Great Earth Sangha, and a range of values and virtues, his ideas provide a foundation for the type of society that both accords with core Buddhist values and stands as a promising alternative to societies that have led to such crises as climate disruption.
