There is certainly not much attraction in the common paste beard toy generally sold under the scientific name of Kaleidoscope, obtainable for the moderate sum of one penny or two pence at any cheap toy shop, and hence this really pretty and entertaining instrument is comparatively unknown, because seldom viewed under favourable conditions. The Kaleidoscope thus made can be tilted at any angle, the glass rotated without the fatigue of holding the instrument, and the objects can be changed. The first step is the manufacture of the casing and the preparation of glass slips. To produce the best results fairly long slips of thin looking-glass are undoubtedly preferable.
