Some people have curious reasons for emigrating. There is a modern novel, in which two of the characters just think of coming to New Zealand because they liked its shape, but they finally settle in Rhodesia, because the name looked so attractive in black on a pink background in the atlas. There are several towns to choose from, each with its distinctive climate and features, from warm and languorous Auckland in the north, where figs and oranges grow out of doors, to sturdy Dunedin in the south, with its soft Scotch mists and its foundation of Scotch folk. Electric light and telephones are installed nearly everywhere, and even the fitted-in tubs and the bath-rooms, with their convenient wash-basins, come as a relief to any one accustomed to much carrying of water up and down stairs.
