ABSTRACT
A lady took a special interest in a bedspread, about which she read from the ticket that the maker worked ten hours a day, and was paid four pence halfpenny for each article. Her earnings amounted to ten and sixpence a week, of which she had to pay fifteen pence in train fares, and a penny an article for out of pocket expenses. A great deal of home work was done under conditions which were a menace, not only to the worker, but to the public. The tendency was now to worse and worse conditions, and to lower and lower rates of pay. It would be provided in the Bill that the premises must be inspected once in six months, and a certificate given, without the production of which by the worker no work could be given out. Certain wicked persons were telling the home workers that those who were interested in the Bill wished to abolish their work altogether.
