ABSTRACT

As winter comes on and with it the necessity for warmer and heavier clothing, it becomes a matter of even more importance than in summer that the weight of the clothes should be evenly distributed over the body instead of pressing unduly on any one part. Woollen materials embody the first requisite, and most people are now sufficiently convinced of the comfort of these to wear woolen combinations next the skin, and this is the best possible foundation for healthful dress. But skirts have the great disadvantage of encasing both lower limbs together in a common sheath. For the material of these knickerbockers, or combinations, there is a black stockinette stuff made for riding trousers, which answers very well, or they may be made of navy-blue serge, or of cloth to match the dress.
