ABSTRACT

Art is ever progressive; and, when all is done and said, there is more of it in the numerous examples of costume which the trade exhibitors show in the dress department of the Health Exhibition than in all the examples which Messrs. There is much nonsense written about the ‘vitiated taste’ in dress of the present day, and this Exhibition may perhaps serve to demonstrate this more clearly than the committee having superintendence of the dress department count upon. Gloves, again, are allotted a considerable place in the dress department, Messrs. The specimens of outdoor and evening dresses constructed on the principle are very becoming in appearance, and stylish in their general ‘get up.’ But one can see the dresses in repose, not in use, so are not able to judge altogether how they look when submitted to the practical test of every-day wear.
