ABSTRACT

There were certain conventionalities about the dress of women which she, as a member of the Rational Dress Society, would fain see altered and overset altogether. Their garments, as at present constructed, are too numerous, too tight, too weighty, and inconvenient in their length and cut. In the struggle for life which many women of the present day are coping with, the mode of dress which regulation forces upon them is oftentimes detrimental to their comfort. Instance a wet day, a girl going out to work in the morning wearing long skirts, said skirts becoming draggled and moist, and the unfortunate wearer being obliged to endure them until night. Corsets Mrs. Oscar Wilde would abolish altogether for young girls, and for grownup people would suggest a bodice possessing a few easy bones, and made to button, not to lace, from which by means of buttons skirts could depend.
