ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at ‘The Coming Dress Bazaar’ recently held at Kensington, and are fain to confess that there is much to be said in favour of the divided skirt, in a modified form, especially for young girls who walk and enjoy active exercise. There were several varieties of the new style, prettiest amongst which were some half-a-dozen specimens. One was a ‘Syrian’ costume of dark blue cashmere, the dual skirt made short, and the loose bodice turned back over a shirt of pale blue Surah. Another costume of a masculine Japanese type was very graceful, made of fancy cloth and velvet in a mint-green shade. A third was of terra-cotta and black, with a very full dual skirt that could only be distinguished from an ordinary garment after minute examination, and was highly to be commended. Very pretty were the costumes worn by some fair stallkeepers.
