ABSTRACT

Chapter 6 covers the general concepts and critical steps to interviewing the sexual assault victim or other victims of traumatic events. These interviews are often difficult because victims experiencing a traumatic event do not process and remember events in the same way we normally do in other events in our life. Therefore, a new approach is necessary to gather as much information relevant to the event as possible. This chapter also introduces the behavioral orientated interview technique that concentrates on the offender’s verbal, physical, or sexual behaviors exhibited at the scene or through their interactions with the victim. These behaviors take place before, during, and after the event.
