ABSTRACT

The curriculum model was based on an ‘enquiry approach’ to learning. The factors against which they were asked to compare their old with new curriculum were: children’s perceived motivation levels, children’s retention levels of taught matter, children being more aware of the purpose behind what they were learning, whether children are making more links between their learning and whether parents have a greater understanding of what is being learnt in school. The attainment gaps were not being reduced enough, and knowledge was not being well retained. The children visited weekly to help them learn the key knowledge for their enquiry, and each ‘buddied-up’ with one of the residents.
