ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author explores how the Children North East's Poverty Proofing program has influenced their school and their wider family of schools in the North West within our Multi-Academy Trust. Poverty Proofing is a wonderful process that will challenge the school focusing the school to question stakeholders through the lens of poverty, to direct the leadership team's focus and help to create a more even platform for disadvantaged learners. The Trust CEO's vision was for all schools within the Trust 'family' to be Poverty Proofed, so senior and middle leaders across the Trust were trained about poverty, Poverty Proofing and auditing. Implementing Poverty Proofing is not something that occurs as a ‘one off’ and shelved for the report to gather dust. It is a continual process, a process that is weaved into all aspects of school leadership and becomes the responsibility of all leaders.
