ABSTRACT

Learning the word of social science is a discipline which involves listening to the self (biographical and autobiographical), the wider social context, and the body of subject knowledge. A fundamental tenet of this discipline is not to misled people at large, to create knowledge that is dependable. To abide by this tenet requires perseverance not to let any one of these aspects become privileged on the one hand and to then observe that each is in fact a mirror of the other two. One idea that holds these aspects in their respective relative positions as well as importance and also brings them together is ‘trustworthiness of the word’.
