ABSTRACT

Roger Robinson was commissioned by Speaking Volumes to participate in a tour of America. This tour was called Breaking Ground and involved Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) writers visiting universities to give talks and readings. One of the stops was in Sacramento, California, and on one of their free days the writers on tour were offered the opportunity to host a voluntary workshop for inmates at Folsom State Prison. The experience of talking with the inmates made Robinson see prison and redemption in different ways, with each conversation shedding light on unique and person stories. This chapter is a poem that reflects on his experience at Folsom.
