ABSTRACT

This chapter, which introduces Sport and the Pandemic: Perspectives on Covid-19’s Impact on the Sport Industry, commences with an overview of the global pandemic that brought the sport industry to a halt in 2020. After covering the arrival of Covid-19, the authors of the chapter explain a few of the ways in which the sport industry has been affected and permanently altered as a result of the fallout of the coronavirus. The chapter concludes with an explanation of the layout of the book and the remaining 29 chapters that are positioned within the book’s five main sections. The sections include the managerial, marketing and communication, governance, sport spectators and participants, and psychological and sociological aspects related to sport and Covid-19.
