ABSTRACT

In May 2018, the United States repealed the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act, thus allowing individual states the opportunity to offer their own form of regulated sport betting. Looking to capitalize on this change in law and aid in the progression of sport betting within the United States, the newly re-established XFL of 2020 decided to go all-in on a future destined to involve betting. The betting consumer was at the forefront of this new XFL. Floating betting lines during XFL game broadcasts gave sport fans in the United States a glimpse into the potential future of sport betting. However, soon after the league’s season debut, Covid-19 struck the globe. The XFL’s season was ultimately canceled and the league soon after folded due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This chapter will focus on how the XFL, as a league, embraced sport betting within its daily operations and the untimely impact Covid-19 had on its future.
