ABSTRACT

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a considerable impact on people in all areas of life, from ways to interact with one another to ways to enjoy sporting events. Easing of social distance guidelines allowed for the two most popular professional sports leagues in Korea – the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) and the Korean professional football league (K-League) – to return in early May. The purpose of this chapter is to grasp the effects of Covid-19 on the KBO and K-League, what crisis response strategies were utilized by these two leagues, and foresee the possible crises they should predict. It would set a precedent for the professional sport industry around the world by giving an idea of what to prepare for when resuming the season, and what the post-coronavirus era could look like.
