ABSTRACT

In recent years, the tourism and hospitality industries have been paying more attention to the increasing requests of people with disabilities (PwD) for accessible tourism products and services. However, the mainstream tourism industry remains largely fragmented and inaccessible, prohibiting PwD to effectively and extensively participate in leisure activities. The aim of this book chapter is to highlight the importance of accessible tourism as a transformational force for tourism and hospitality industries. The prospect of the creation of a more inclusive society, the need for innovative and competitive businesses and destinations, and the possibility of a more sustainable future for the leisure sector are discussed. With its increasingly growing significance, accessible tourism has the potential to transform the industry as we know it.
