ABSTRACT

With the widespread adoption of technology in the daily lives of modern humans, trends in cultural and heritage tourism have become erratic and entrenched in newer technology-based innovations. Archaeotourism (AT) is the most significant component of cultural and heritage tourism. This chapter considers digital transformations in AT and evaluates how the digital world is convenient for AT in terms of its methods and principles. Turning archaeological areas into tourism products requires the collaboration of many scientists from diverse fields. The use of technology from these fields in this scholarly component makes AT more compatible with digital technologies. Archaeotourists are also typically intellectuals who are mainly in pursuit of heritage in the digital platforms, which greatly influences digital transformation in the field. Excavations that can be broadcasted live from archaeological destinations also serve as a justification for digital transformation, as technology plays a significant part of such archaeological studies. With proper planning, management, promotion, appealing marketing activities and coordination mechanisms, and empowerment of local communities, well-connected AT in the digital world can sustainably contribute to revolutionising the industry.
