ABSTRACT

Union Wharf is a pioneering 249-home Build to Rent development that includes an array of residents’ amenities and an extensive public realm along Deptford Creek located near Greenwich town centre and the Cutty Sark DLR station. Residents’ feedback is generally positive; one resident interviewed reported that as a resident she feels ‘privileged to live in this project since August. The residents are forming an active community using social media to communicate with each other, they hold regular get-togethers for residents, and share tools and equipment. The modular construction led to difficulties in the delivery of the cantilevered balconies and required some on-site remedial work to be implemented. This was exacerbated by the need to use scaffolding to install the Corium brick slip facade system. The scaffolding made it difficult to install the balcony components.
