ABSTRACT

The designer is central to the manufacturing process, but thoroughly immersed in the industry so as to be part of the team needed to deliver excellence. The industry and the architecture profession is increasingly aware of the consequences of climate emergency, with designers becoming more conscious of the impact that their design decisions have on environment at both a local and global scale. Designers in the housing sector always stress that the outcomes of manufacturing processes must be good ones, and they have little interest in fostering the use of manufacturing simply for its own sake. Architects should position themselves to be the primary designers for clients and manufacturers of housing construction systems and develop a reputation in the manufacturing community for understanding the process of design for manufacturing and assembly and embracing the opportunity to work with manufacturers.
