ABSTRACT

The completed projects are proving the sector can deliver demonstrably higher quality, with reduced defects and improved building performance, and with greater choice of layout and specification offered to customers. The engagement from government and signs of changing attitudes to innovation from some of the larger housebuilders could be an early positive sign of change ahead to overcome the huge problems with construction quality and skills shortage across the industry. A further boost for the modular industry has come from the United Kingdom Government choosing to mandate greater use of modular construction on sites promoted through Homes England. Many of the projects have been delivered substantially quicker than would be possible using any other form of construction and with significantly less disruption to the existing nearby community due to reduced vehicle movements for a shorter period of time.
