ABSTRACT

It was felt that capitalism in India as well as the world over had entered a new phase of development. It was becoming more modern, corporatisation was proceeding apace, real estate was growing rapidly, the stock exchange mechanism was on the rise, and finance capital was growing. The MNCs were gaining ground. Liberalisation and globalisation were among the new features. A rigid, sectarian outlook and approach has to be given up. We should not adopt a hostile attitude to religion and spiritualism. Indian reality is a complex and complicated one. All the democratic forces should come together on people’s issues, and find common bases. The participants emphasised the need to study the works of other Marxist and non-Marxist thinkers, besides Marx, Engels and Lenin, to enrich Marxist theory.
