ABSTRACT

The accelerated rate of growth measured in terms of GDP and GNP is creating an Indian brand of Monopoly Capitalists, notwithstanding the fact that 20,000 farmers have committed suicide during the last one decade. Opposition to the anti-worker and anti-farmer policies of the present government has only come from the left in general and from the communists in particular. The working class has no hesitation in accepting the left political leadership as the vanguard as far as the struggle for justice is concerned. But the same class does not accept the same leadership when the question of electing the political representatives comes. It is a matter of serious discussion, why this dichotomy occurs. For a very long time we have ignored the power of religion in determining the social psyche. Most of the time religion has been used to divide the working class.
