ABSTRACT
This chapter will introduce the core concepts and ideas, provide a review of the existing literature and set out the key objectives and the structure of the book. It therefore not only touches on concepts such as bandwagoning or hedging, but also provides an overview on the scholarly debates on Asia’s geopolitics. Inter alia it touches on aspects such as China’s rise and U.S. decline in Asia, new geopolitical and geo-economic fault lines as part of the Belt and Road Initiative as well as the Free and Open Indo-Pacific, or the role of small and medium powers.
