ABSTRACT

Co-authored by cognitive psychologists, this chapter examines claims related to alien encounters. The chapter begins by describing some of the more well-known encounters from the 1960s and 1970s. Alien encounter stories are often consistent with each other, and some people have passed lie detectors when describing their experiences. On the other hand, the chapter also discusses some of the limitations with these types of evidence. The chapter concludes by considering the role of hypnotherapy, sleep paralysis, and false memories.
