ABSTRACT

Co-authored by school psychologists, this chapter examines claims related to psychosexual stages. The chapter's emphasis is on Sigmund Freud's theory the five psychosexual stages development - oral, anal, phallic, latency, and genital. It includes a section on pop culture and public perception. The chapter gives credit to Freud for some of his ideas while providing reasons for skepticism regarding some of his other ideas. The chapter concludes by attempting to understand beliefs related to psychosexual stage theory.
