ABSTRACT

This chapter provides an overview of conducting video studies focusing on video records as data and operationalising video methods in STEM research. The mathematics study, M2EID, provides an exemplar of how video methods can be employed in multi-disciplinary and multimodal research projects. The chapter discusses when it is appropriate to utilise video methods as a dynamic, real-time approach to data capture and outlines how video data is characterised and analysed. The advantages and challenges of conducting video studies are illustrated briefly and the chapter concludes with key considerations for mobilising video methods in STEM research.
