ABSTRACT
In this chapter, philosophical considerations about interdisciplinarity and interdisciplinary education will be used to provide guidelines for doing educational research on STEM education. The difference between pre-disciplinary, disciplinary, and multi-, inter-, and transdisciplinary knowledge will be examined and the consequences for educational research will be explored.
