ABSTRACT

A case study approach allows researchers to empirically and inductively answer questions about contemporary phenomena investigated in real-life settings. It generally focuses on one occurrence, or a limited amount of occurrences, of a given phenomenon with the aim of presenting an in-depth interpretation of procedures, experiences, outcomes, and relationships arising in that case. Drawing on multiple-case studies investigating science secondary classrooms when a Content and Language Integrated Learning approach is adopted, this chapter provides an overview of case study approaches, followed by an explanation of how the cases were determined and bounded and the data sources chosen, analysed, and discussed in this CLIL science education study.
