ABSTRACT
Large-scale studies such as the Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) provide rich and varied opportunities for researchers to explore the correlates of student outcomes in STEM areas. As a resource for researchers conducting secondary analyses of data compiled under the auspices of large-scale quantitative studies, this chapter will present a discussion of some key issues that researchers should consider when planning such studies.
