ABSTRACT

The world is going through major rebalancing on a scale and scope not seen since the 19th century. The Gulf Arab and Chinese leaders are aware of the tectonic shifts happening in the international system technologically, geo-economically, and geopolitically. Petroleum is no longer the only noticeable consideration in the Gulf Arab-Sino relations; they are quickly going beyond petroleum to include many other strategic sectors. They are strengthening their partnerships in energy, trade, infrastructure, investment, and technology in unprecedented ways. The two sides have entered into many long-term agreements with the aim of building and cementing a mutually beneficial partnership. The GCC countries have eagerly welcomed and participated in China’s BRI. Both sides recognize the significance of this major initiative to their future ambitions and goals. They both understand that a strong GCC-China relationship contributes positively to the BRI. The comparative advantages of the Gulf states and China make them natural partners. Their historical people-to-people ties, similarities in development models, and complementary strengths are bringing them closer together. Their leaders are keen to further improve their relationship and pave the way for a stronger collaboration and continuous growth in the future.
