ABSTRACT

The chapter discusses how changing understandings of social, economic and ecological value are impacting on the ways in which local government, developers and communities manage green infrastructure. By examining the financial innovations seen across the UK due to ongoing austerity politics the chapter looks at the role played by multifunctionality, as an idea to aid financial support for landscape enhancement. In addition, the chapter will reflect on whether parks and other green infrastructure resources are considered as part of local communities, and if so, can they be used to promote a more resilient form of public engagement with nature. Overall, the chapter discusses the growth of green infrastructure thinking at the local level and examines how urban landscapes can be used to meet various socioeconomic and ecological needs.
