ABSTRACT

Conflict and peace shape the world’ s urban areas. The Colombian 2016 peace agreement ended an armed conflict of more than 50 years, which occurred mainly in its rural regions. Challenges with this agreement are identifying and interpreting its physical/social outcomes in the country’ s cities, where much of the peace agreement is now played out. Additionally, applying appropriate mechanisms to yield valid reflections is crucial. To discuss the agreement’ s effect on the country’ s informal settlements, this chapter characterizes the physical/social outcomes resulting from interaction of different actors in Colombia’ s cities and reflects on these using the concepts of territory and urban resilience.
