ABSTRACT

This chapter considers the range of legal, institutional and professional frameworks that exist internationally relating to landscape governance. It evaluates the scope and effectiveness of these tools in meeting the current global challenges, including the urban transformation imposed by climate emergencies. Concerned by the direct consequences of climate change, the significant transfigurations required to adapt and mitigate them and the impact of these radical and rapid changes into our build environments, the chapter reflects on our perception of those transformations and landscape crises and their effect on the creation of our collective identity, finally advocating for a more cohesive non-sectoral and holistic multi-scale and transdisciplinary culture of landscape governance.
