ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author explains an exciting technique of stream-of-consciousness drawing. This visual journaling process unearths problems that don’t surface when writing or talking. Helping professionals can use this technique as part of the therapeutic or coaching process to deepen both their own and their clients’ understanding of the situation. The process is equally valuable for solo use by clients or journal writers as part of an ongoing “mental hygiene” process. Helping professionals can also use the drawings as a personal tool to gain greater understanding of their clients’ needs.
