ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to provide instructional design and technology students with a broad, yet practical, overview of human performance improvement (HPI). While HPI is often considered an approach more appropriate for business and industry, the systemic and systematic process of the HPI model is a valuable tool for practitioners and leaders who are located in just about any setting where people are working or performing. Within this chapter, we will introduce a case study of HPI applied to a public charter school. By the end of this chapter, you should be able to distinguish between HPI and instructional design and technology, describe the application of the HPI model, and align appropriate interventions to given causes of a performance problem.
