ABSTRACT

PMI’s Project Management Body of Knowledge, the PMBOK® Guide, provides a common project management vocabulary, along with a body of knowledge requirements that is recognized as good practice by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), a private, non-profit organization that administers and coordinates the U.S. voluntary standards and conformity assessment system. You will see frequent references to the PMBOK® Guide throughout this chapter. It should be noted that although the PMBOK® contains a large body of knowledge on the project management profession, this chapter focuses on the basics that you are most likely to need as an early-career instructional designer. Specifically, this chapter will introduce the basic concepts associated with project management; highlight the synergy between instructional design and project management; and identify some key considerations for successful instructional design project management.
