ABSTRACT

The management and administration of programmes are essential components in the effective delivery of rehabilitation services. A board of management, sometimes called a voluntary agency board, is the senior body responsible for decision-making, policy and action that gives direction and opportunity for agency development. Specific goals and strategies are essential for the sound delivery of professional services, and the success of efficient fund-raising projects. Voluntary agency boards are essential and how they act is critical. The possible effectiveness of such action is examined in relation to the calibre of the directors and their abilities to control and initiate events. Various committees are discussed, a model is presented for a person-committee fit, an examination is made of the importance of motivation and quality management, and suggestions are given for effectiveness of communication among all components of the organization. The voluntary agency board is of prime importance in the success, enjoyment and satisfaction of both service suppliers and service receivers.
