ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book introduces themselves in order to convey a more relational and safe experience as they impart glimpses into their work. It illustrates that dance as healing element has been used by indigenous cultures for centuries, speak to the origins and key figures of DMT and point out the need to turn from a Western-centric to a multicultural position. The book describes the lack and relevance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in DMT and elsewhere, and present culturally and spiritually informed practices. It focuses on a different core aspect of DMT, its juncture with neurobiology, and Rebecca Barnstaple and Rebekka Dieterich-Hartwell review known concepts and suggest trauma- and neural network-informed directions. The book presents and underscore the integral function of relationships, bonds, and kinesthetic connection in trauma recovery.
