ABSTRACT

Following the lead of Marxist educational scholar Glenn Rikowski, this essay traces the limitations of current instantiations of critical pedagogy in mounting a critique of capitalist schooling and advocating for a socialist alternative. Revolutionary critical pedagogy developed by Paula Allman, Peter McLaren, Glenn Rikowski and others is discussed as a necessary counterpoint to these limitations. The paper ends by supporting the further development of revolutionary critical pedagogy as a means of educating for a socialist alternative to capitalism.
