ABSTRACT

In this chapter works that focus in various ways on the implementation of knowledge management strategies are presented and discussed. The meaning of knowledge, absorptive capacity, and knowledge management are presented. Then some attention is paid to tacit and explicit knowledge. Next, definitions of a knowledge management strategy are presented. Differences in knowledge management strategy and knowledge strategy are searched for. Dimensions of knowledge management strategies are listed. Types of knowledge management strategies are defined. And finally, implementation of a knowledge management strategy is indicated. A knowledge management strategy is an attempt to formulate intentional plans for explicitly managing knowledge and a sort of roadmap for the knowledge management department of any organization. A knowledge management strategy is defined as the creation and subsequent management of an environment, which encourages knowledge to be created, shared, learnt, enhanced, organized and utilized for the benefit of the organization and its customers. The knowledge management strategy is a set of organizational processes along with infrastructure and it is used to manage organizational knowledge. Implementation of knowledge management strategies may be performed in the following two ways: (1) concentration on one strategy, (2) combination of a few strategies. Implementation of knowledge management strategy is a broad spectrum of activities that involve knowledge audit, organizational culture, organizational structure, management support, chief knowledge officer, and IT infrastructure. Systems supporting the processes of implementation of a knowledge management strategy are community of practices.
