ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explores the rationale for including climate change education as part of the core primary curriculum. It also explores the nature of climate change and climate change education. Climate change caused by global warming is already beginning to transform life on Earth. The book illustrates how the world's spiritual and religious traditions can help people to address the ethical dilemma of climate change. It examines how reflective practice can be promoted and developed explicitly as a means of interrogating beliefs, culture, pedagogy and practice within the field of climate change education. The book presents reflective practice as a lens through which teachers and students can consider critically the dominant assumptions, values and beliefs which underpin modern society and how these are implicated in the current ecological crisis. It discusses the importance of including climate change education in early years' settings.
