ABSTRACT

Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) is a dual-focussed educational approach in which an additional (foreign or second language) is used for the learning and teaching of both content and language. It involves teaching another curriculum subject or certain aspects of another subject through the medium of a foreign or second language. This chapter aims to provide some ideas, pedagogies and methodologies on how to approach a CLIL lesson using climate change as a context while teaching through the medium of a second or foreign language. A priority will be to maintain a balance between the language learning and the content learning, a balance which maximises language learning and maintains appropriate high levels of academic achievement in the subject matter at the same time.
