ABSTRACT

With a number of global issues currently facing humanity such as poverty and injustice, there is an increasing need to tackle issues pertaining to climate change. Given that education plays a critical role in supporting the development of environmental awareness, it is critical that learners are empowered with an understanding of their role as change agents in the context of environmental justice. In this regard, the importance of working towards climate justice so that future generations can live in harmony with nature needs consideration. This chapter is concerned with the role of drama in facilitating participants to engage meaningfully with issues pertaining to climate change, and will provide insights into how drama can support inquiry. The content, knowledge and pedagogical strategies required to implement drama lessons will be outlined along with the theoretical underpinnings. A ‘good citizen’ has a justice orientation with a desire to act in a responsible manner. Each lesson contains a focus on citizenship or the capacity of an individual to be a ‘good citizen’.
