ABSTRACT

The municipality of Uppsala is the fourth largest municipality in Sweden in terms of population size, with around 230,000 inhabitants. A large part of the population in the city of Uppsala consists of students. Uppsala University is the oldest university in Scandinavia and has attracted many researchers and students since its foundation in 1477. The neighbourhood of Rosendal is a newly built neighbourhood intended to facilitate the growth of the city and the increase in population. The vision for Rosendal includes 3,500 houses and apartments as well as schools, shops, and facilities. In a shortage of space around Uppsala, Rosendal had to be built right on top of a water conservation area. Ground water is the main source of drinking water for the city, which makes it important to keep it clean and safe — especially when climate change leads to more drought in the summers with a potential shortage of water for both irrigation and tap water use.
