ABSTRACT

The first public meeting of the Peoples' International League was held at one o'clock on Monday, November 15, at the Crown and Anchor Tavern, Strand. The small room was entirely filled at the hour of meeting, and an adjournment to the large room became necessary before the commencement of the proceedings. Nearly 1,500 persons were assembled. In the first place the Council issued an Address explanatory of the principles of the League, its objects, and the course to be pursued. The Address referred to the changes which had taken place in Europe since the Treaty of 1815. The Council of the League have also published a pamphlet on the important question at present agitating Switzerland.
