ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the author summarises the important elements of the most widely used planning/evaluation frameworks and analyses the use of the approaches. She focuses on program evaluation, although some important issues about politics and policies that guide programs and program development also need to be considered. The author also focuses on a couple of frequently considered issues in the section that can make a substantial difference to the quality of a health promotion program evaluation and subsequently to the views held by some researchers about the limitations of the evaluations in the discipline. The sharing of evaluation results among the profession is one of the most important aspects of advancing evaluation science in health promotion because a community of the practice can play an important role in boosting the confidence of the practitioners and the quality of health promotion the program evaluations.
