ABSTRACT

Established in 1913, the Siam Cement Public Company Limited (SCG) has grown from a business supporting the development of Thailand’s national infrastructure to a leading player in ASEAN and a role model for sustainable development. This chapter discusses how this listed conglomerate incorporates sufficiency thinking deeply into its management practices and policy decision-making. Established in 1913, the SCG has grown from a business supporting the development of Thailand’s national infrastructure to a leading player in ASEAN and a role model for sustainable development. ‘Short-termism’ may lead to rapid gains, but it can result in a business losing direction. Sustainable enterprises value a long-term perspective over short-term gain. SCG has proven to be exceptionally good at applying sufficiency thinking to its business practices. It has thrived in an unpredictable business environment, capitalising on its core competencies and continuously developing its human resources to cultivate a strong culture as a sustainable enterprise.
