ABSTRACT

The quintessence of science education lies in providing opportunities for students to learn about both the process and content of science. Effective use of resources and facilities in purpose-built science classrooms or laboratories and out-of-classroom learning environments constitutes an important part of students’ learning of science. The science classroom or laboratory can provide students with learning experiences utilising both manual and intellectual skills. Science equipment could be dangerous in the wrong hands, and it is also expensive for the school to replace. Integration of increasingly sophisticated technology in the science classroom provides many opportunities for science teachers and their students. Science textbooks are widely used in science instruction, despite some experts advising against a textbook-centred approach to science teaching. In summary, comprehensive knowledge and effective use of science resources inside and outside classrooms and laboratories can contribute towards a positive and profound influence on students’ science learning and teacher confidence.
