ABSTRACT

The purpose of this chapter is to present an overview of the use of focus group interviews and their applicability in rural safety, security, and criminology studies. The authors present a literature review on qualitative research methods, particularly emphasizing focus group interviews, followed by cases and examples of focus group interviews in their studies using a multimethod approach. The chapter concludes with a reflection on the advantages, disadvantages, and limits of the focus group interview method in researching local nonurban safety, security, and crime issues.
